PORNDOM'S CAIN AND ABEL STORY HAS FINAL CHAPTER
Carnal Crusader JIM MITCHELL, who was a pioneer in the fight to both make and peddle pornography, was just released from prison after serving only three years of a six-year sentence.
He had pleaded involuntary manslaughter after killing his younger brother, ARTIE, in February, 1991.
The Mitchell Brothers made headlines across the nation during the 1960s and 1970s because of their many court battles -- battles based on their claim that they had a constitutional right to shoot and market XXX-rated films.
Based in San Francisco, where they also owned theaters, they ultimately won their legal fights.
But trouble still loomed.
Family trouble.
According to court testimony during Jim's trial, Artie became addicted to alcohol and cocaine.
That lethal mixture made Artie paranoid.
He imagined enemies everywhere.
And as he drank and snorted more and more -- the more enemies he imagined.
As days passed, he grew more and more unstable.
And soon he started making death threats, leaving them all over town on answering machines.
One of those threats he made to his brother, Jim.
Jim took it seriously.
That prompted a confrontation.
Now Jim knew Artie was truly dangerous.
Nobody could reason with him.
He not only wouldn't listen, but he grew more volatile, explosive, his threats more menacing.
Enough!
Suddenly, Jim charged into Artie's home -- and shot him.
Now out of San Quentin, JIM MITCHELL continues the lusty legacy he and his brother fought so hard to build.
The theaters are packed.
Business is booming in Baghad by the Bay.
The battles are all won.
But it was a helluva price to pay.
One brother dead.
The other, alive and prospering -- but still feeling the pain.
To have to kill your own brother.
Think about that.
Pain, indeed.
