Interview with: Adara Michaels of Scandalous
by George Gagliardi
A Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On

Well, the above title is appropriate on at least two levels. First off, the rock 'n roll set they did there at PT's, ala Blues Brothers, truly had a whole lotta shakin' going on -- as well as a whole lot of very erotic carrying on, what Adara might refer to as "fun stuff." (Heck, they even danced to Jerry Lee's old classic as part of their routine). And then there was dessert as well, Amber even gave me her, rather, cherry. The whipped cream climax of a very hot show. And their second show, a kind of S/M little gem with both girls done up in black leather, Adara as dominatrix, Amber cast a sex slave and...Well, if you were there during their week at PT's last month and caught any of their shows, each one different, I might add, then you know just how hot an act they are, if not...Well, you just should have been there, that's all. It was a feast of sexual fantasy, to be sure.

By now, I assume you realize I'm talking about the torrid twosome known as Scandalous, a feature duo extraordinaire who easily fulfill the old adage, "Double your pleasure."

Regarding the second reference, that simply is an apt description of just how much is going on, the "moving and shaking" of their careers. To say the least, they're one of the most sought after acts in the "biz" right now. Naturally, never one to miss an opportunity to fraternize with two sexy blonde "babes", and otherwise get my ogling exercise in, I welcomed the chance to catch up on what Adara Michaels and Amber were up to these days. In between the aforementioned shows I spoke with Adara for an update.

GG: Okay, Adara. Let's just jump right into it. I understand a lot has transpired since our last conversation some 6 months ago. What's up?

Adara: Oh, jeez. Lots of stuff. We're debuting the Scandalous Quest magazine which is coming to a city near you.

GG: What's the nature of the magazine? What kind of magazine will it be?

Adara: Well, I'm the publisher of it and Eddie (Marshall) is the vice-president of it and we're working with the people who have Houston's Night Moves -- they're working with us on it. It's hard to explain how we're going to do this. It'll have different articles in it that I'm gonna write and research from the girls that I talk to. I'll be interviewing girls and putting all their information, and anything that they want the public to know about them. We'll have stuff in there from the fans and...If I could get this bug out of my eye, I'd be in great shape. (Trust me, she's already in "great shape" -- however, while she was trying to remove the unwanted insect from her vision, I took the opportunity to make sure my recorder was cooperating. It was. To continue...) It will be an adult magazine, it will have adult oriented materials in it. It will have different layouts of girls and like I said I'll be writing articles. I'll be covering a lot of events that are going on -- different conventions, the CES convention, the VSDA -- anything that I can be there for. I'll be covering it and taking photos. It'll be kind of fun. My section in it is more for the fans, I think, than anything else. Just to let everybody know what the girls are doing.

GG: Are you looking forward to the writing aspect of it? Do you like to write?

Adara: Oh, I love to write. The media kit has come out for this magazine and I've got a couple of things I wrote in it.

GG: Are you planning to get a distribution deal through newsstands, etc.?

Adara: Yeah, eventually it'll be like that. Right now it's very "city" oriented, as to where it gives all the information on the local clubs and hangouts and places where gentlemen like to go when they're traveling or the men that just live in the town.

GG: This doesn't sound like a small enterprise at all. What kind of size are we talking about here? Newspaper size?

Adara: No, it'll even be bigger than that. It's gonna probably be anywhere from 70 to 140 pages, I guess. It'll be pretty big.

GG: Next?

Adara: I'm co-hosting, with Kylie Ireland, the first annual ALF awards show in Houston, in August. So we're gonna raise some hell down there and fight this stuff that's going on in Houston.

GG: And for those of us who may not know what ALF stands for, it is...

Adara: It's Adults for Legal Freedom. Basically, what's happening is they're taking over and shutting everything down in Houston that is adult oriented and what's going to happen is if they (adult entertainment) lose the battle, it's going to be the ripple effect across the United States and it's going to start happening everywhere. And we just feel that if there are adult oriented things out there, we should have the freedom to choose whether or not we're going to go and view it or buy it or read it or whatever.

GG: You're gonna be writing, hosting a freedom rally, out dancing, and there's even some videos in the work, right?

Adara: Our Scandalous line of videos. They'll have the shows that we do -- so the guys can see part of the shows, as well as, some other fun things that will be tied in with that. You'll just have to rent one or you can order them through the fan club. They should be coming out pretty soon. We're just waiting to get the dubs back.

GG: If you had to categorize them, would they be more hard-core or T&A?

Adara: More T&A

GG: Perhaps along the lines of Playboy or Penthouse?

Adara: Yeah. Maybe a little hotter than that.

GG: Last time we talked you were still in a quandary as to whether or not you should do Adult Films. Have you come to a decision on that yet?

Adara: Well, I had actually planned on doing that (adult films), made the decision for doing adult films in January, and then I was approached by HBO to do a series. It's called Adara's Diaries, the Seduction Series. They asked me to please hold off on doing adult films for awhile until we can get the series done and see how it's gonna go. They didn't want any conflict there so I didn't mind that because if I'm going to have my own series that'll be fine. Two pilots have been sold to the European market already and we're going to be filming in the fall. Hopefully, they take the pilots and go from there and get a series out of it. They said thirteen, fourteen months. So we'll see.

GG: All this and dancing your little feet off all across America. How many days would you "guesstimate" you're on the road?

Adara: We're traveling about 30 weeks out of the year now (Please note: there are only 52 weeks in a whole year, you figure it out). So, we're doing anywhere from 12 to 30 shows a week. It's really fun though. It certainly ages you being on the road, though. I'll tell you what. But it's a lot of fun. We're really having a good time. I think this is gonna be our best year because we've got all of our lights now. We've got it "down to a T" (Make that T&A....couldn't resist). The shows are running great, everything's computerized now with the lights and we're getting involved in more things. Actually, we're sponsoring a party for the Gentlemen's Club Owners Expo, the first week of September. So, we'll be in Las Vegas with Don Waitt of Exotic Dancer Magazine during this expo, and then for two days on Friday and Saturday Scandalous and Scandalous Quest magazine are sponsoring the fan appreciation day, and the bar owners' parties at the Lady Luck.

GG: It seems to me that you've moved up the ranks of popularity rather quickly. Am I right about that?

Adara: I think so. If you look at a lot of the girls out there, unfortunately some of them you never ever see too much of them and they've been out there for five or six years. I attribute a lot of it (our popularity) to Eddie. He's a marketing genius as far as that goes. He did the right thing to get our names out there and our faces and make people know who we were quicker. I'm very overwhelmed. I'm very pleased, too, at how things are going.

GG: Last time we spoke, we talked about your friendly rivalry, if I can call it that, between you and Blondage. How's that relationship, currently? I'm assuming they're still working the circuit.

Adara: Oh, yeah. We saw them in Florida. We went to see them at the Crazy Horse in Pompano, and they are just absolutely beautiful, and they have a very erotic show. That was the first time I'd ever seen them. Actually, it was the first time I had ever met Julia Ann as well. I talk to Janine quite a bit but never Julia Ann. I was really happy I got to see them finally.

GG: I like a lot of things about your shows, and one aspect in particular that stands out is that you do a complete show first and then have a time for any tipping afterwards. In other words, you don't feel a need to interrupt your show to get a tip. I'm curious, has anyone else that you know of follow suit?

Adara: Actually, no. I've never seen any other girls do that before. I'm sure that we'd make quite a bit more money if we took tips throughout the whole show, like most of the other girls do. However, we're not in this for the tips. I mean, as far as I'm concerned, we get paid for working on stage and the tips are the bonus. And, we have three minutes where we collect tips. So...we'll still do pretty good. A lot of the guys don't really understand what we're doing. They'll come up in the middle of the show and try to tip us and what am I supposed to do -- stop whipping Amber, run over and take the tip and then go back over and whip her again. It just wouldn't look right, so they're (the tippers) are asked to sit down 'till we end the show.

GG: Speaking of shows. Your shows definitely have that Vegas flair. Any thoughts about having your own place in Vegas?

Adara: Oh, sure. That's always been a goal of ours to have our own show in Vegas. Another thing that I'm going to be doing, or I've been asked to do, are the....Oh, shoot. I'm so tired, George, that I'm losing my train of thought. (Laughter) One of the hotels out there is having a show where they're featuring an adult star or a magazine star for a couple of weeks and I've been asked to do one of those, in one of the showrooms. It'll be a Las Vegas show that features one of the girls. So, hopefully, I'll be able to do that.

GG: So, life imitates, not art really, but a bad movie. I'm, of course, speaking of Showgirls. Did you see it?

Adara: Yes, very disappointing. It didn't portray the adult industry very well, I didn't feel. That's not the way it is. Unfortunately, you've got girls' fathers and mothers going to watch a movie like Showgirls and they're like, "See, this is what my daughter's doing. This is what it's like out there." And that's not the way it is. Now, there are some seedy places out there, but for the most part the clubs have come so far and cleaned up their act and there are some really beautiful, multimillion dollar clubs with gorgeous girls and just full of class. And you never see that, you never see that on Entertainment Tonight. You see all the other crap.

GG: Even so, I feel that gentlemen's clubs are becoming less a taboo thing as evidenced by the fact that now even Playboy Video, which in days passed made it officially clear that they had no desire to be associated with topless clubs, has at least two features out devoted to strippers in clubs around the country. This is almost like a barometer that signals a kind of overall change in attitude towards the clubs. Do you agree?

Adara: I feel, and Eddie and I have discussed this for years -- He said quite a few years ago that the adult industry is going to work its way into mainstream. They're going to merge together eventually and it's happening right now because you used to hear that once you were a porn star you could never cross over into mainstream and look what's happening there. I mean, we've got Jenna Jameson's and the Janine's. If they wanted to step over the line and go into regular movies, they could. I heard the other day a company contracted the Vivid Video girls to do that. I don't know, it's happening. It's all merging together. I mean, sex sells, sex is everywhere. You're not gonna get around it. You're not gonna shut it down. You're not going to make it go away. It's there, so you might as well live with it.

GG: Well, guess we should wrap this up since you might like to have five minutes to yourself before you have to go back and do your next show. So, how about this for our closer question. You've got a ten second radio spot that will be aired all over the country, and every radio station will play it. What do you say in those ten seconds to your fans?

Adara: I have to say, and I don't think that it gets said enough, none of my success, none of the other girls' success in this industry would be possible and would have happened if not for the fans. They make the world go round in the industry. They really do. Thank you to the fans. They made it happen.

GG: Thank you, Adara, for another enjoyable interview. Now, when you come back in December at PT's, I'm gonna have to come up with a whole new reason for getting you alone for a while. Say, would you like to see me etchings? Hmm? Never mind. Until next time, Happy Ogling. Thanks to PT's. Scandalous can be reached at:
