Interview with
Andrea Mountjoy
Penthouse Pet
Sophie's Mentertainment® Issue May/June 1997
Sophie: Andrea, hi, it's Sophie.
Andrea: Oh, hi Sophie.
Sophie: I was looking at your web page on my site, and there was a couple of your pictures and your history and credits, etc, so I know something about you and I kind of know that you are from Missouri, the show me state. And I know that you are very young and you try to keep an innocent outlook on life.
Andrea: Yes.
Sophie: So you were Penthouse Pet in 1994, right?
Andrea: Correct. I was also in February '96 Penthouse, February '97 Penthouse, and May '97 Penthouse.
Sophie: So not what's on the newsstands now, but what was out last month, because they do two months ahead of time, right?
Andrea: Yes. I also had March '97 High Society, I should be coming out in Gallery some time this year, I am doing a shoot for Hustler.
Sophie: Are you going to do any adult videos
Andrea: I'm not sure, I haven't decided yet.
Sophie: Have you ever done them before?
Andrea: No. I haven't made up my mind if I'm going to do them or not. I have a lot to think about.
Sophie: Who books your shoots for magazines? Yourself or do they call you?
Andrea: Pretty much I do because I know all the photographers for Penthouse and I know a lot of the photographers that shoot for the movies, so pretty much I do that myself. I also have two of my own web sites that are in progress right now and soon to be out. Hopefully within the next couple of months they should be completed. It's called Plus Entertainment and my web sites are "blondeambitions.com" and "mountjoy.com".
Sophie: So who is Plus Entertainment?
Andrea: Plus Entertainment is a kid out of Florida and he actually is looking to expand. There is another girl in it, and they're actually wanting to expand it to make it a really big internet thing. It's just now getting in the making but I have a really good feeling about it that it's going to go over really well.
Sophie: So they have somebody already on the web and it's doing well?
Andrea: Yes. That's where I was supposed to be going this week, to do video work and everything, but I got a little too beat up from the stage and all that, so I had to cancel my shoot, because I want to look good for my shoot.
Sophie: Everybody is jumping on this web site band wagon.
Sophie: So let's talk about what it is like to be a feature.
Andrea: It's great. I love to travel. I love to meet people.
Sophie: Do you travel on your own?
Andrea: I travel by myself sometimes and I travel with a roadie sometimes, it depends. Now I'm just kind of doing my own thing, going around by myself right now. Sometimes I have someone come with me, sometimes I don't.
Sophie: What do you call home?
Andrea: California.
Sophie: So you actually have some permanent residency?
Andrea: I'm in California right now, but I want to move to Florida.
Sophie: Why is that?
Andrea: Because that's where my web sites are, and that's where I do a lot of my work for modeling and video. And actually it would be both Florida and California, I would be going back and forth. But I'm actually going through a divorce right now, so I kind of want to get away from California.
Sophie: So your soon to be ex-husband lives in California?
Andrea: Right, right. And when I go out on the road, and I get worn out I take lots of vacations. I really believe that you shouldn't get burnt out because you will not do your job and men can read that, and you can read that yourself and you'll end up driving yourself crazy. That's why I take vacations as much as I can.
Sophie: So this is a vacation that your taking now?
Andrea: Exactly, got to have them.
Sophie: When I was younger I didn't take them, and now I can't. (laugh)
Andrea: There are so many things I want to do and so many places I want to go. I love my job and if I get burnt out with a show I can always change it. That's the nice thing about being a feature. You're not always at the same club, you're at a new club each week and you're usually in a new state each week.
Sophie: Do you fly?
Andrea: I fly everywhere. Yes.
Sophie: Some girls don't.
Andrea: I know, some girls drive.
Sophie: Right, and they're not bookable to very far.
Sophie: So you are going to be here in New Jersey in June?
Andrea: That's correct.
Sophie: Where are you going to be in between?
Andrea: I'm taking some time off.
Sophie: So you're not going to be anywhere?
Andrea: No.
Sophie: Well that's wonderful. You're going to be fresh and beautiful.
Andrea: I'm going to be fresh. As fresh as you can get.
Sophie: I've never seen your show, but my photographer Mike did, somewhere in upstate New York. Maybe Newburgh. It was a small place about a year and a half ago. So we do have some pictures of you that he took, and you look pretty. I always say to girls, that if our pictures make you look good, than you look good.
Andrea: Oh, thank you.
Sophie: So for some time you were representing that club on the back cover, and you don't even know that, right?
Andrea: I have been? I didn't know that.
Sophie: And everybody says, "Who's this beautiful girl and when can I book such a beautiful girl?"
Andrea: Oh, I think I remember now because I had to sign some release forms. And they used my face to promote their club, right?
Sophie: Yes.
Andrea: Oh cool. I remember this guy now. I'm sure once I see him again it will all come together.
Sophie: Well he doesn't work here anymore. He went on his own. He's a photographer now. It's not easy to be a good photographer. I am a good photographer in a club, but I've never even done studio.
Andrea: Oh. you've never done studio? It's a lot different. If you do anything outside or anything indoors, it's completely different, especially the light format. Sometimes I think working outside is almost easier. Anytime you work on the inside you always have to change the lights, or where they are, and when you're working with the sun it's only one thing you have to work with and you have to balance the sun out with the background.
Sophie: I'm kind of thrown off that you may be considering being an adult movie person. But men are different, I'm a woman, and even though I have to confront everyday that girls do what it takes to make money, I wish they didn't. And if you're a Penthouse Pet, I don't think that you have to be in adult video.
Andrea: No, you don't have to.
Sophie: But if you like it, than it's okay.
Andrea: Everybody has their own point and their own feelings upon it. And honestly, I don't know if it's for me. I have a lot to think about, it's a big decision. This is something that's going to affect me the rest of my life. I'm not one of those dumb girls that just jumps into something without thinking about doing what I'm doing. I always look into things very thoroughly, or I try to anyway.
Sophie: At first you were a magazine girl and not a dancer, right?
Andrea: Right. Actually I was at a club with a girlfriend and a Penthouse photographer approached me and asked if I had done any nude magazines before, and I said no. He asked if I'd be interested in doing Penthouse. I was very scared, I was nineteen. He took a couple of snapshots outside, I was in this red dress. He submitted them to Penthouse and Penthouse called me three days later and said they wanted me as a Penthouse Pet. I asked if I could take some time to answer because I was really scared and I was very young. It took me three months and I called them in January. In Missouri it was very cold then, and I said that the only way I'm going to do it is if you send me somewhere tropical. So they sent me to the Keys, and I went scuba diving, and they had me in the greatest hotels, with fantastic people, and it was like a dream come true. It was beautiful, absolutely beautiful.
Sophie: What did you do until nineteen?
Andrea: I modeled. I modeled since I was about seventeen. I did a lot of calendars, I've had three national posters out, actually four now, and I did the cover of Bride & Groom Magazine.
